Hows building now open

Coppermaker Square’s newest apartment building, Hows is now available for rent. Its collection of studios, one, two, and three-bedroom apartments offer effortless rental living in the heart of an exciting new community in Stratford, East London. In recognition of the area’s railway heritage, each of the development’s six buildings are named after inspiring figures from the industry’s history. Hows is no different.

Taking its moniker from gay rights activist Julian Hows, one of the tube’s first queer train guards who after being expelled from school at age 16, Hows joined the UK Gay Liberation Front and took part in some of London’s earliest Pride marches. When he joined the London Underground (LU) in 1974, he was living as part of a radical communal group known as the Brixton Faeries in what became London’s first gay community centre.

His time as a guard came to an end four years later, when LU bosses banned him from wearing a skirt to work and he resigned in protest. The image of him wearing the women’s guard uniform on his last day made the TV news and appeared in The Evening Standard.

Open plan living

Today, the Hows building offers friends and families the best of shared living, with generous open-plan living spaces, well-equipped kitchens and plenty of storage. Many apartments also feature second bathrooms, so you can live together without getting in each other’s way. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the homes with light, while balconies boast far-reaching city or park views, bringing the outside in.

All residents also gain automatic access to the Coppermaker Club as part of their monthly rent. Its unrivalled amenities and perks include a premium gym and workout studio, complete with daily fitness classes, a swimming pool and spa, a private dining room, and co-working spaces. A packed calendar of events – five or six every month – also helps to bring this diverse community together.

One Coppermaker Square resident said: “The gym and pool facilities are what sold the building to me… the gym is better than a lot of chain gyms but with half the amount of people so you can always find free equipment to use.”

Another said: “The development is beautifully styled and well maintained by friendly and helpful staff. The amenities and atmosphere makes it feel like you’re walking in and out of a luxury hotel every day. Flat is clean and well designed. Views across London are divine.”

It’s the place to be

Coppermaker Square is ideally located in Stratford, East London right next to Westfield Stratford Shopping Centre, with its 300 stores, 65 bars and restaurants, cinema, bowling alley and casino. It is also well connected to the rest of London and beyond. Both Stratford station and Stratford International are within easy walking distance, giving residents direct access to the tube, Overground, DLR, Elizabeth Line and high-speed rail links.

All are connected to Coppermaker Square via a stunning new green space, Coppermaker Park Square, offering a leafy route to the shops or a relaxing place to walk the dog. Fancy stretching your legs? Head to Queen Elizabeth Park and its sporting facilities, go for a stroll along the Regent’s Canal, or jump onto two wheels to explore the Lee Valley Velopark’s bike tracks.

A resident said: “The location is perfect. Being above Westfield you have any and every shop you could need, and then being opposite Queen Elizabeth Park you have the open space to go for a walk or a run and get away from the busy side of things. It’s 2-minute walk to Stratford station which makes commuting so easy as the tube links are great.”

The personal touch

All Hows building apartments are offered to rent furnished or unfurnished, in either a light or dark colour palette and neutral tones, giving residents the opportunity to select their own bespoke pieces to personalise their space. Designer Amy Heffernan of Heff Studios aimed to demonstrate just how creative residents can be by transforming our show apartment using their signature style whilst the show apartment by Samsung displays the usefulness of technology in designing an apartment.
